About this trip

A hands-on workshop experience (different from our Day of the Dead tours)

Thursday, 29th October

12:00 pm - 7:00 pm

✨Experience the beginning of Day of the Dead in Oaxaca through one of its most meaningful traditions.✨

In Teotitlán del Valle, you’ll be welcomed into the bakery of an En Vía woman entrepreneur for a focused, hands-on experience centered around the making of pan de muerto.

The day is intentionally centered on a single, in-depth tradition, offering more time to learn, participate, and connect.

Together, you’ll take part in a pan de muerto workshop, learning how the bread is prepared and shaped, as well as its significance on the altar as an offering to loved ones. As you work side by side, your host will share stories about how Day of the Dead is lived in her family and community.

Teotitlán del Valle, known as the “Land of the Gods,” is one of the oldest Zapotec communities in the region. It is especially known for its weaving traditions, which date back to pre-Hispanic times and continue today through the production of handwoven wool rugs. Many families balance artisan work with small businesses, creating a strong connection between tradition and daily life.

This is an ideal experience for those looking for something more intimate, slower-paced, and hands-on, with a strong focus on food, storytelling, and cultural meaning.
