✨Experience the magic of Día de los Muertos in Oaxaca from the very beginning, as families prepare their homes to welcome loved ones back.✨
Monday, 2nd November
11:00 am - 6:00 pm
Experience the celebrations come to a close, as families begin to say goodbye to their loved ones.
In Santa María Guelacé, you’ll be welcomed into the home of an En Vía woman entrepreneur and spend the day accompanying her as she honors and remembers her loved ones. The experience moves between time in the home, visits within the community, and moments at the cemetery.
Santa María Guelacé is a largely agricultural community, where daily life is closely tied to the land. Families grow beans, garlic, and chiles de agua, raise animals in their backyards, and produce foods such as queso fresco. Spending time here offers insight into how tradition, food, and family life are deeply interconnected.
Throughout the day, your host will share her perspective on Día de los Muertos—what it means to her, how it is lived in her home, and how these traditions are passed down.
Our Day of the Dead tours offer an intimate and authentic cultural exchange, centered around one woman, her family, and her community. Rather than following a fixed itinerary, we move with the natural rhythm of the day, allowing you to experience traditions as they unfold.
