✨Experience the magic of Día de los Muertos in Oaxaca from the very beginning, as families prepare their homes to welcome loved ones back.✨
Sunday, 1st November
9:00 am - 4:00 pm
In San Bartolomé Quialana, you’ll be welcomed into the home of an En Vía woman entrepreneur and spend the day as the arrival of the souls unfolds. The day moves between time in the home and visitas, as families travel through the community to visit other altars and share offerings. In Quialana, these visits are an essential part of the day, strengthening bonds between households and extending the act of remembrance beyond a single home.
The town’s name refers to “black rocks,” linked to the surrounding landscape. Daily life is shaped by a mix of agriculture, small businesses, and artisan activities, with strong community traditions and local forms of organization continuing to play an important role.
As you spend the day with your host, you’ll learn how this moment is lived within her family—how the altar is prepared, how the arrival is received, and how these traditions are carried forward.
Our Day of the Dead tours offer an intimate and authentic cultural exchange, centred on one woman, her family, and her community. Rather than following a fixed itinerary, the experience moves with the natural rhythm of the day.
